Families for Depression Awareness is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness of depression. It seeks to help families recognize and manage depression and associated mood disorders, reduce stigma associated with depressive disorders, and unite families and help them heal and cope with depression.

In November 1999, a workgroup on parental illness was convened in Washington, D.C. with support from the Center for Mental Health Services and the National Cancer Institute. This event brought together researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and individuals and families affected by parental illness. This site contains a report summarizing deliberations of the meeting. This page within the Dr. Spock Web site contains the Center for Epidemiologic Studies' Depression Scale , a self-questionnaire to help parents determine whether they are experiencing symptoms of clinical depression. The scale has 20 questions and takes about five minutes to complete.
