$4 Million Available to Fund Expansion Grants for Emergency Mental Health and Substance Abuse

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced the availability of grants to promote readiness for all types of crisis events from natural disasters to terrorism. Approximately $4 million in funding will be available to 40 grants of less than $100,000 each in total costs for a period of up to 24 months. The program is designed to enhance state-level capacity for a coordinated response to mental health and substance abuse service needs in the aftermath of large-scale emergencies, both natural and human-caused.

$1 Million Available to Fund Mental Health Prevention and Early Intervention Services
Deadline: October 22, 2002

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has announced the availability of funding for grants to support cooperative agreements to meet emerging and urgent mental health services needs of communities. Approximately $1 million in funding will be available for up to 3 cooperative agreements ranging from $300,000 to $400,000 each for a period of up to 3 years. Eligibility is limited to cities, counties, and tribal governments and their agencies.

The program will increase the capacity of cities, counties, and tribal governments to provide prevention and early intervention services for infants, toddlers, preschool- and school-aged children and adolescents, in mental health and other settings that serve children and adolescents, such as schools or child care programs. The grants will help communities build the service system infrastructure necessary to use evidence-based prevention and early intervention programs and services.
