Runaway and Homeless Youth Program Funding
Application Deadline: February 19, 2008
The Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) is accepting applications for the Basic Center Program (BCP), which is authorized by the Runaway and Homeless Act to address runaway and homeless youth (RHY) problems. BCPs provide an alternative for runaway and homeless youth who might otherwise end up with law enforcement or in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice systems. Each BCP must provide runaway and homeless youth with a safe and appropriate shelter, individual, family, and group counseling as appropriate, and aftercare.

2008 Safe Schools/Healthy Students Grant Application Now Available

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools is now inviting applications for the FY 2008 Safe Schools/Healthy Students (SS/HS) grant. The SS/HS program supports the implementation and enhancement of integrated, comprehensive community-wide plans that create safe and drug-free schools and promote healthy childhood development. Only local educational agencies are eligible to apply.

2008 Science and Service Awards Will Honor Implementation of Evidence-Based Mental Health and Substance Abuse Interventions

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has issued a call for applications for its 2008 Science and Service Awards, a national program that recognizes community-based organizations and coalitions that have shown exemplary implementation of evidence-based mental health and substance abuse interventions.
A maximum of five awards will be made in each of the five categories:
- Substance abuse prevention
- Treatment of substance abuse and recovery support services
- Mental health promotion
- Treatment of mental illness and recovery support services
- Co-occurring disorders
To be eligible for an award, an organization must have successfully implemented a recognized evidence-based intervention. Both public sector (State, local, territorial, tribal) and private sector organizations (including community-based organizations and/or coalitions) are eligible to compete for these non-monetary awards.

Distance Learning and Telemedicine Program Grant
Application Deadline: April 14, 2008
The Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Program is specifically designed to meet the educational and health care needs of rural America through the use of advanced telecommunications technologies. In the Grant Program, the focus is on funding end-user equipment that operates via telecommunications to connect students and teachers or medical providers and patients in separate rural locations.

Grants to Tribes, Tribal Organizations, and Migrant Programs for Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention Programs
Application Deadline: May 12, 2008
These grants will offer financial support to selected Tribes, Tribal Organizations, and Migrant Programs for child abuse prevention programs and activities that are consistent with the goals of Title II of the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act. Programs and activities supported by these funds will prevent the occurrence or recurrence of abuse or neglect within Tribal and Migrant populations by supporting effective and comprehensive prevention activities and family support services.
