Go Overboard Challenge Grant

Funding Available for Mental Health Programs
Application Deadline: May 6, 2008

Through the Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance funds projects to increase public safety by facilitating collaboration among the criminal justice, juvenile justice, mental health treatment, and substance abuse systems to increase access to treatment for offenders with mental illness. The goal of the program is to provide funds to counties with which they can plan, implement, or expand initiatives that increase public safety, avert increased spending on criminal justice, and improve the accessibility and effectiveness of treatment for residents who have a mental illness, substance use disorder, or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder and who are in, or at risk of entering, the juvenile and criminal justice systems.

Grants For Schools and Districts
Application Deadline: May 15, 2008

Teaching Tolerance offers grants up to $10,000 for programs that engage collaboration between educators, researchers, parents/guardians and student groups that aim to equalize students' experience in schools. Such programs might include:

  • Equitable discipline policies and practices
  • Consistent educational experience for migrant, homeless, or foster-care students
  • Special education advocacy, with emphasis on parent and students' rights
  • Prejudice reduction efforts in racially isolated schools
  • Equitable school assignment plans

Supplements to State Mental Health Data Infrastructure Grants for Quality Improvement

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announces the availability of funds to expand/enhance grant activities funded under the State Mental Health Data Infrastructure Grants for Quality Improvement. The purpose of this program supplement is to support mental health prevalence estimation and related associations in State populations.

United Healthcare Children’s Foundation

Many families have children with difficult medical challenges, and rising health care costs are an issue in almost all families. The costs of psychotropic medications used to treat mental health issues are quite high. The United Healthcare Children's Foundation provides financial assistance to families whose insurance does not completely cover all of their child's health care costs.

Bridges from School to Work Grants
Application Deadline: Open

Bridges…from School to Work, sponsored by the Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities, provides job training for youth who have recently exited high school or are about to exit high school and places them with local employers. The program serves in-school youth, out-of-school youth, youth with disabilities, pregnant or parenting youth, and youth in foster care or aging out of foster care, urban youth, minority youth, as well as youth with serious emotional disturbances (SED). Bridges…from School to Work is located in major cities throughout the United States, including Washington, DC, Atlanta, GA, Chicago, IL, Dallas, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Philadelphia, PA, and San Francisco, CA. Youth from other parts of the country, however, are highly encouraged to participate as well.

Grants from the Entertainment Software Association Foundation

The Entertainment Software Association Foundation, the giving arm of the trade association for videogame makers, each year awards grants of up to $50,000 to support projects benefiting youth ages 7 to 18. Grants are made in the areas of education, general health and welfare, multimedia arts and technology, prevention of risky behaviors, and skills and personal development. They also provide scholarships to minority youth who plan to continue their education in fields supporting video game development, graphic design, computer science, animation or programming, digital entertainment or software engineering.
