National Youth Service Day

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has joined Youth Service America as one of more than 60 national partners in promoting participation in this year’s National Youth Service Day.

The event, which will be April 11–13, 2003, has three principal purposes:

  1. To mobilize youth to identify and address the needs of their communities through service.
  2. To recruit the next generation of volunteers.
  3. To educate the public about the year-round contributions of young people as community leaders.

Youth from across America will take part in community-service projects organized by schools and other local organizations. The projects will involve a broad array of public service activities, such as tutoring younger children, serving meals at homeless shelters, visiting nursing homes, and cleaning up vacant lots.
