SAMHSA’s Planned Funding Opportunities for FY 2007

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has announced the “At a Glance” table for 2007. The table provides preliminary information about planned discretionary grant funding announcements, based on the President’s FY 2007 budget. The table includes a description of each planned funding announcement, eligibility requirements, and the approximate size and number of awards.

Caring Across Communities: Addressing Mental Health Needs of Diverse Children and Youth

Deadline: July 28, 2006

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is accepting proposals for its Caring Across Communities initiative. This new initiative will support partnerships between schools and mental health service providers and will emphasize work with community organizations to reduce cultural and language barriers to quality mental health services. Up to $100,000 per year will be awarded for a three-year period to 15 grantees. Prospective grantees must represent partnerships among school districts and other appropriate community agencies such as mental health centers, multicultural service agencies, faith-based organizations, and/or other immigrant- or refugee-serving organizations with mental health expertise.

Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning

Deadline: August 2, 2006

Taken from the grant announcement: “The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Head Start (OHS) and the Office of Family Assistance (OFA), Child Care Bureau, announce the availability of funds for the Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL). The purpose of this grant is to improve the social and emotional outcomes and enhance the school readiness of children, birth to age five, through: (1) analysis of research on evidence-based, user-friendly strategies and the development and national dissemination of these strategies for use in early childhood classrooms and care settings; (2) the creation of partnership networks to build the capacity and foster the sustainability of Head Start and Child Care programs; and (3) the implementation of process and outcome evaluations on the impact of evidence-based, user-friendly strategies on improving the social and emotional outcomes and school readiness of children, birth to age five.”

Early Identification and Treatment of Mental Disorders in Children and Adolescents

Deadline: October 1, 2006 (Cycle III)

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is accepting applications for its Early Identification and Treatment of Mental Disorders in Children and Adolescents program. Awards will be granted to support research on the early identification and treatment of mental disorders in children and adolescents. For-profit and non-profit organizations, public or private institutions, units of State government, units of local government, eligible Federal government agencies, faith-based or community-based organizations, and Indian/Native American Tribal governments are all eligible to apply.
