New Connections Initiative Calls for Proposals ReleasedThe Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has posted two calls for proposals related to Building Human Capital, Disparities, Pioneer, Quality Health Care, or Vulnerable Populations. New Connections Initiative - Round 2 (Senior Consultants Program) Application Deadline: Dec 28, 2006 The New Connections Initiative, an effort of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), is designed to expand the diversity of perspectives that inform RWJF programming and introduce new researchers and scholars to the Foundation, while simultaneously helping to meet staff needs for data that can measure progress towards programming objectives. Senior Consultants are individuals who have the expertise and/or research skills necessary to address various relevant issues in health and health care. Consultants from historically disadvantaged and underrepresented communities include individuals from ethnic or racial minorities or low-income communities, first-generation college graduates, or others who have historically been underrepresented in research disciplines supported by RWJF. The purpose of this program is to support health education that reflects the Latino community’s health needs in Ventura County. Areas of interest include family strengthening, with an emphasis on sexually transmitted diseases and obesity prevention, and HIV/AIDS prevention. Bernard Foundation is accepting applications for its Youth Mental Health Grants program. The purpose of this program is to support innovative programs that address the interplay between social conditions and the psychological health of children and families. SAMHSA Science to Service AwardApplication deadline is February 28, 2007 The new SAMHSA Science to Service Award is the first award to focus on implementation of evidence-based programs (EBPs) in mental health and substance abuse programs. The award is designed to recognize communities and organizations that are implementing EBPs with fidelity and good outcomes for consumers. A maximum of three awards will be made in each of four categories: substance abuse prevention, treatment of substance abuse and recovery support services, mental health promotion, and treatment of mental illness and recovery support services. The Mental Health grant supports organizations that provide services for transition age youth (16 – 23). The Pregnancy Prevention grant supports organizations that provide outreach for reproductive health care, provide contraceptive services or provide services to pregnant teens. Grants are primarily used for core operating support. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations and government agencies.
