Building Local Systems of Care with a Plan: One Community's Strategy

The USF Logic Model Team provides TA on theory of change and logic model development. This presentation offered an overview of the theory of change concept and use of logic models as a tool in articulating a community's theory of change. Presenters described TA resources available to SOC communities. Matt Wojack, Project Director of Impact, Ingham County System of Care, presented on his community's theory of change and strategy for building an effective SOC, including the concept of "plan the work, then work the plan."


Transforming Children’s Mental Health in America – Introduction to the Child, Adolescent and Family Branch and Grants Management

This Webinar provided an overview of how the core values of systems of care are key to system transformation. In addition, participants heard from SAMHSA Grants Management staff about the requirements of the cooperative agreement.

Promoting Resilience in Children and Youth Who Experience Childhood Abuse

This Webinar examined the phenomenon of resilience as it applies to survivors of childhood trauma – specifically child abuse and neglect. The presenter offered participants the opportunity to discuss why resilience is so important, how it is influenced by factors inside and outside the home, and what factors nurture resilience in children. This Webinar addressed the age-old question: "Why do some children bounce back while others seem to have great difficulty recovering from the trauma they have experienced?"

Effective Transitional Practices: Emphasizing Multi-System Collaboration for Youth Involved with the Juvenile Justice System

The values and guiding principles of systems of care stress the importance of comprehensive, individualized, and coordinated efforts at both the system and service delivery levels that is youth guided and family driven. These essential system of care principals, along with the application of collaboration theory, need to be employed while transitioning youth in, through, and out of the juvenile justice system. This Webinar intended to describe transition practices, with emphasis on collaboration between stakeholders and the multitude of involved systems.

Suicide Prevention in Rural Communities

This presentation provided information on a variety of strategies that States and communities are implementing to prevent youth suicide in rural communities. Discussion focused on promising approaches in rural schools, practical tips for overcoming obstacles and challenges in suicide prevention in rural settings, and the Suicide Prevention Toolkit for Rural Primary Care developed by the Western Interstate Consortium for Higher Education (WICHE) in partnership with the Suicide Prevention Resource Center.

National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day Webinar on Data and Latest Updates

This Webinar highlighted the latest Awareness Day updates and key national evaluation data findings. The National Evaluation Team shared important outcome data from the "Short Report," to be released nationally on Awareness Day on May 7. The Short Report describes gains made by youth ages 14–18 in systems of care, including improvements in school performance that benefit the youth, family, schools, and the larger community. All system of care communities—even brand new ones—can link their community efforts to national data and success.

Behavioral Health Services for Rural Immigrants

This event discussd the findings from a report on rural America from the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire, "New Immigrant Settlements in Rural America: Problems, Prospects, and Policies." Following the presentation by author Leif Jensen, Ronald Manderscheid discussed implications for the behavioral health of children and families living in rural America and link this with what we are learning about determinants of health and the Healthy America 2020 Report.
