Learning Communities
The Cultural and Linguistic Competence Community of Practice announces the formation of four Cultural Learning Communities: The Latino Learning Community, the African Heritage Learning Community, the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander Learning Community, and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex, or Two-Spirit Learning Community.
A learning community is much like an affinity group made up of individuals and groups that have a common interest in a particular subject and wish to network with others who have the same interest. The networking facilitates peer mentoring, issue development, resource gathering, best practice sharing, strategy development and a variety of other mutually assisting activities that promote and improve access, availability, quality and outcomes to the populations we serve.
The CCAT will maintain a cohesive vision, facilitate communication and coordination among the workgroups and with other resources and to provide needed assistance and support to maintain the viability of the TA Partnership’s Cultural Learning Communities. The Cultural Learning Communities will be able to use the variety of convening methods offered by the CLC-COP, including conference calls, email distribution lists, CLC-COP listserv, the TA Partnership’s Cultural and Linguistic Competence webpage, face to face meetings when possible at system of care conferences or meetings and other communication and convening methods as determined by the CCAT.
Each TA Partnership’s Cultural Learning Community is co-facilitated by a TAP staff member, contractor and/or at least one community member. Each Cultural Learning Community also has a CCAT Liaison. The Cultural Learning Community co-facilitators arrange for conference calls at least every other month and coordinate activities.
