DOJ Initiates Talks To Bring AMBER Alert to Indian Country
The U.S. Department of Justice announced that it has initiated talks with tribal leaders about bringing AMBER Alert to Indian country. As of last year, all 50 states had statewide AMBER Alert plans in place so that all levels of state law enforcement know when a child is abducted. To create a seamless AMBER Alert network across the country, Assistant Attorney General Schofield is encouraging tribal nations to develop their own plans tailored to their specific needs so that children in Indian country may also benefit from AMBER Alert. Federal Funding Resources to Support Juvenile Justice Programming

Federal government agencies that serve youth are members of the Coordinating Council for Juvenile Justice and Delinquecy Prevention, which is co-chaired by the U.S. Attorney General and the President. This body meets quarterly. One of the goals of the body was for every agency to look at what they currently fund and how some of that funding could be directed to youth in the juvenile justice system and their families, as well as those at risk of entering the juvenile justice system. Several of the agency representatives delivered a workshop at the January 9 - 13, 2006 juvenile justice conference sponsored by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. At the workshop, each of the participating agencies prepared handouts for the participants on the resources in each agency.

I have compiled those resources into one PDF file that you can load on your computer and review when it at your convenience. The document contains the most current funding resources, Web sites, listservs, publications and other related resources. These resources are intended to enhance community initiatives for youth and families. Not all persons or jurisdictions will be eligible for every funding source. To view the document, CLICK HERE.
